The Plankinton Community Library has received some new memorial books from JP, Gayle, and Altman VanGenderen Studeny. They are "Last Stand: America's Virgin Lands" by Barbara Kingsolver in memory of Leroy Greenwold, "Riding with Rilke" by Ted Bishop in memory of Larry Vlasman, "Women's Letters: America from the Revolutionary War to the Present" in memory of Donna L. Johnson, "The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio: how my Mother raised 10 kids on 25 words or less" by Terry Ryan in memory of Marge Braunschmidt, "Pilgrimage to India" by Pramila Jayapal in memory of Marlene Dodd Anderson, "96 Horse Breeds of North America" by Judith Dutson in memory of Lloyd Nickles, and "Green Inheritance: saving the plants of the World" by Anthony Huxley in memory of Lawrence Meoska.
Kieth & Cathy Albrecht have given a donation to purchase new library books in memory of Evelyn Crocket and Donna L. Johnson. Gerald and Bea Heismeyer donated books in memory of Evelyn Crockett. The library has also received book donations from Joan Williams, Joel Jansen and JP, Gayle, and Altman VanGenderen Studeny.
The next column will list new books the library has recently purchased. Stop by the library sometime soon to see all the new titles. We have many of the books on the bestseller list. The library is open from 3:30-6:00 p.m. on M/T/TH/F and is located at the north end of the school.

The Plankinton Community Library now has the newest novel in the Wilderness series by Sara Donati. "The Endless Forest" was donated in memory of Donna L. Johnson by Gerry & Bea Heismeyer. A memorial gift was also received from Sally Erdahl in memory of Jack Schuman which will be used to purchase a new book for the library.
Books, DVD's and videos have been donated to the library this past month by Amy Bultsma, Tara Bush and Joan Williams.
The library has new DVD's for you to check out after-school. Many of the DVD's are based on books and it is always interesting to read the book first and then watch the DVD to see how the two versions of the story compare. Some of these new titles are: "Journey to the center of the Earth", "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", "Eragon", "Flicka", "Matilda", "Born Free", "The Secret of NIMH", "The Polar Express", "A Little Princess", "Prince Caspian" and "The Tale of Despereaux". We also have some new "Curious George" DVD's, "Madeline: next stop, America", "TinkerBell and the Lost Treasure", "Hook", "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and other new titles.
The library is open every day after-school until 6:00 p.m. (except Wednesday). Stop by and check out something to read during this winter weather. Remember to bring back any forgotten library items that are due to be returned or you can call the library phone number 942-7600 to have them renewed.

The Plankinton Community Library thanks all those who have donated books to the library this month: Julie Dykstra, Jan Schlimgen, Cheryl Miller, Helen Boyd, Phyllis Niles, and Merrill Harris. The library also received memorials from Deette and Lawron Bohr in memory of Lawrence Meoska and Leroy Greenwold that will be used to purchase several new books for the library.
The new books this week at the library are "Going Rogue" by Sarah Palin, "Waiting for Coyote's Call" by Jerry Wilson, "South Dakota: simply beautiful" by J. C. Leacock, "900 miles from nowhere" by Steven R. Kinsella, "The South Dakota State Capitol: the first century" by Marshall Damgaard, "The Black Hillls: yesterday and today" by Paul Horsted, and "The Steel Wave" and "No less than victory" by Jeff Shaara. There are two new westerns, "The Blackfoot Trail" by Charles G. West, and "Sidewinder" by Jory Sherman. We also have "Comfort Food" by Kate Jacobs, "Rainwater" by Sandra Brown, "A Promise for Ellie" by Lauraine Snelling, and "The Centurion's Wife" by Davis Bunn and Janette Oke. New mysteries at the library are "Hollywood Moon" by Joseph Wambaugh, "Terminal Freeze" by Lincoln Child, "Thriller2: stories you just can't put down" edited by Clive Cussler, and "Hardball" by Sara Paretsky.
The library will be open Monday & Tuesday 3:30-6:00 p.m. library hours during Christmas vacation (December 21, 22, 28, 29) and will be closed on the Thursday/Friday's of Christmas Eve/Day and New Year's Eve/Day.

The Plankinton Community Library has some new books for you to read on these winter days when it is too cold to be outside. Some Christmas titles are "The Sound of Sleigh Bells" by Cindy Woodsmall, "The Christmas Cookie Club" by Ann Pearlman, and "Lakeshore Christmas" by Susan Wiggs. New mysteries are "U is for Undertow" by Sue Grafton, "The Paris Vendetta" by Steve Berry, "Trial by Fire" by J. A. Jance. There's also a new western "Fatal Justice" by Ralph Compton. Other new books are "A Measure of Mercy" by Lauraine Snelling, "Breathless" by Dean Koontz, "Pirate Latitudes" by Michael Crichton, "The Wrecker" by Clive Cussler, "Pilgrims: a Wobegon romace" by Garrison Keillor, "Knit Two" and "The Friday Night Knitting Club" by Kate Jacobs, and a book edited by T. D. Griffth "Deadwood: the best writings on the most notorious town in the West".
Visit the library after school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday until 6 p.m. to check out some of these new Christmas DVD's: "Barbie in A Christmas Carol", "Max & Ruby's Christmas", "Garfield Holiday Celebrations", "Curious George: a very monkey Christmas", "A Christmas Memory", "Thomas' Snowy Surprise", "Thomas and the Toy Workshop", "Races, Rescues & Runaways and other Thomas adventures", "How the Grinch stole Christmas", and "Miracle on 34th Street". Bea Heismeyer donated “An Echo in the Bone” by Diana Gabaldon to the library in honor of Mavis Haines. David & Jill Harris gave a gift to the library that was used to purchase “The Christmas Secret” by Donna VanLiere, “Shades of Blue” by Karen Kingsbury, “The Carousel Painter” by Judith Miller, and “Though Waters Roar” by Lynn Austin. Those donating books to the library were Joan Williams, Teresa Olsen, Jack Case, Brenda Lint, Bea Heismeyer, Jan Schlimgen, and Mavis Haines. Micah Lint donated a video to the library.
